NEW DELHI: BJP on Wednesday sought to turn Rahul Gandhi‘s “idiot” jibe on him, saying it objects strongly if he has used the disparaging term for students but welcomes it if he was describing himself.“Rahul Gandhi has raised an issue for Congress and INDI alliance. Why do they consider an idiot as their guru,” BJP MP Anurag Thakur told reporters. At a press conference, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra accused the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha of delivering “a pack of lies” in his speech in the Parliament to mislead the country. He said Rahul “lied” by alleging that bullets were fired by protestors and blaming home minister Amit Shah for it. “No bullet was fired,” he said, adding the Congress MP deliberately tried to stoke confusion and chaos. Any use of force by police is ordered by magistrate on duty, he pointed out.BJP said the central govt had engaged in dialogue with the students protesting under the aegis of Cockroach Janta Party and a solution emerged, including the decision to bring a bill to strengthen the law against paper leaks.“Gen Z must be watching as to who participated in the discussion and made positive contribution and who lied. I am sure Gen Z is not going to stand with those who lie through their teeth,” Patra said.Anurag said, “If Rahul Gandhi used ‘idiot’ word for a student, we have strong objections. However, if he has used the word for himself, we have no objections. Rather, we welcome this self-acknowledgement. Better late than never.”
