‘Extreme right-wing terror’ threat: UK police arrest 12 over plot targeting Islamic event
NEW DELHI: The UK police has arrested 12 people over an “extreme right-wing terrorism-related” threat to an Islamic event during the weekend.The event, which drew around 15,000 attendees, took place at a country estate in Suffolk, eastern England, from July 9 to 12.Eight men remain in custody after being detained under the Terrorism Act, police said. Three other men were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, while a woman was held on suspicion of assisting an offender. The suspects are aged between 27 and 60, and searches are underway at multiple properties in London and surrounding areas, eastern England, and near Manchester.The arrests were carried out on Sunday and Monday at multiple locations across England after authorities identified what they described as a “potential serious threat” to the religious event, news agency Reuters reported citing the police statement.
